Am I required to maintain my own copy of this code base if I want to create a new transformer?

I want to create new a new "Types only Typescript" template.

I originally thought this could be done by defining a custom templates directory, but it looks like I need to define a *Codegen.java file inside of /codegen/languages in the core code base. Am I correct that the only way to do this would be to fork the project and create that language file, or is there a way for me to use the published build and inject the new language?
